 Tryout Information
General Tryout Information

We generally hold our tryouts on the first weekend of November. The tryouts are open to anyone. An invitation or past club experience is not required. We do not reserve positions for former Quake City players. Each player must earn their spot each season. A tryout flyer will be sent to all who request it.

We hold tryout sessions for power teams and area teams. (For a definition of power and area league teams, please see below.) Teams are grouped by ages determined by USA Volleyball's Age Group Definition, and are based on birthdate. Players may play in an older age group, but not in a younger age group. Coaches generally select between 8 to 12 players per team.

Normally, we have tryout sessions on two consecutive days or two consecutive weekends. We do this to help avoid scheduling conflicts. Attending one session on one day is sufficient. A player does not need to attend both days.

It is to the benefit of each player to attend their own age group tryout and be seen with their peers. If a player cannot attend their age group tryout, a player may try out during another similar age group. If attending an alternate age group, please notify us at least two days before the tryout by e-mail.

There will be a meeting for all parents during the first part of the tryout session. We will give general information and answer any questions. We highly recommend that parents new to our club attend this meeting. The meeting generally lasts between 10 to 20 minutes depending on the amount of questions asked. We try to be as quick as possible in order for parents to be able to see most of the tryout session.

As the date for tryouts approach, please check for updates.

Power vs Area Teams Differentiation

“Power” teams participate in the NCVA Power League. “Area” teams participate in the NCVA Area League.

Power teams are usually more competitive and play at a higher level. Power teams are assigned a tournament site by the NCVA and must be commited to traveling. Travel may be as far as Chico and Fresno. Generally, sites are from Sacramento to Santa Cruz.

Area teams are allowed to select their preferred tournament location. We choose the San Francisco and San Jose areas. Our teams generally play in San Jose, San Francisco,Vallejo and the East Bay as assigned by the NCVA. Ocassionally, the closest site may be an hour and a half away from our general location.
